Take That star Howard Donald to perform at Socialite in Canterbury

A Take That star is set to perform in Kent at a venue hoping to revive a high street’s nightlife.

Howard Donald, who makes up one-third of the iconic British pop group, will perform a DJ set at the Socialite rooftop bar and restaurant in Canterbury next month.

He will be accompanied by other resident DJs, for a night of disco, house and dance music.

Howard is one of many artists booked to play at the city centre venue as bosses noticed “a big demand for live entertainment” in the area.

Socialite’s Zaw Htut said: “Since opening in 2022, the ambition has been to also create an event space offering a wide range of live music, DJ’s, bands, singers, instrumentalists, magicians, comedians and other entertainers.

“We also host wedding receptions, corporate events, birthdays, graduations and other celebrations.

“We have seen the popularity of our events increase and discovered that there is a big demand for live entertainment in the centre of Canterbury, which we believe is something that is missing from the existing night economy and we want to bring it back by offering a mixed genre of music and entertainment to appeal to the wide demographic of customers we are fortunate to receive.

“Being able to secure an artist like Howard Donald is a coup not just for Socialite, but for Canterbury and shows the appeal of the city to artists like this, provided there are the right venues to host them.”

Past events held at the Socialite include a roster of international DJs, such as Brandon Block, Spoony, Huey Morgan, Seb Fontaine, Norman Jay, Tall Paul and Danny Rampling, as well as a residency of singers for monthly Jazz Sunday events and themed bottomless brunches.

They also have a DJ every Friday and Saturday night as well as a monthly resident saxophone player and other visiting bands and singers.

The event will be held on Saturday, March 22 from 7pm.

Tickets will go on sale this weekend, with the exact price to be determined.

Standard entry tickets will be available alongside VIP tickets which include a two-course meal at the venue’s restaurant.
