Canterbury: Man arrested after family verbally abused in Westgate Gardens

A teenager has been arrested over allegations he verbally abused a family in a popular city park.

The incident is reported to have taken place on the footbridge over the River Stour in the Westgate Gardens near Whitehall Road, Canterbury at 6.30pm on Monday 9 May.

A 19-year-old man from the Canterbury area has been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.

He has also been arrested on suspicion of assault, following an incident in which a 13-year-old girl was assaulted in St Radigund’s Street, Canterbury, on the same day.

The man has been bailed until 30 July while enquiries continue.
