A member of staff at a Tesco Metro was racially abused by a man trying to enter the store during special lockdown shopping hours for the elderly.
The incident took place outside the supermarket in Gravel Walk, Canterbury.
Police say a man attempted to enter the branch, but was told it was only open for the elderly and vulnerable at the time.
He is then reported to have made racist comments to a shop worker before walking off.
Officers have now released an image of a man who they believe may be able to help them with the investigation into the hate crime, which took place at about 9.30am on April 15.
They are urging anyone with information to call 01843 222289, quoting the reference number 46/64873/20, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
