Just as the other candidates had predicted, Roger Gale romped to victory in the battle for the North Thanet seat.
The veteran Tory, who has represented the constituency since 1983, took 22,826 votes, compared to Labour's Michael Britton, who won just 9,298.
Mr Gale, who limped around the count at the Margate Winter Gardens after picking up an Achillies injury, said: "I'd like to thank my team for the tremendous work they have put in over very many years. I couldn't have done it without them.
"I'll continue to deliver for North Thanet the service that I've delivered in the past.
"I'd like to thank the entire electorate for their confidence and I'll ensure that confidence is not misplaced."
Earlier, Mr Britton spoke about his friendship with Mr Gale and revealed the pair had agreed not to resort to "mud slinging".
He added: "I respect Roger and if he pips me to the post then I'll be pleased for him, as that's what the people want."
Laura Murphy, who was absent from the count, finished third with 8,400 votes, while the UK Independence Party's Rosamund Parker finished fourth.
