Six sheds in Faversham have been broken into in the last three weeks.

Officers are linking the burglaries in which items such as lawnmowers and power tools have been stolen.

The items were stolen from sheds at properties in Wells Way, Priory Road, Johnson Court, Priory Road, Wells Way and Stonedane Court between April 2 and 5.

Police say sheds can provide rich pickings for thieves and urging owners to make their sheds secure.

Sgt Mike Hill said: “Spring unfortunately is a time of year that traditionally sees a rise in burglaries of garden sheds, garages and outbuildings.

“Sheds are often packed with tools and machinery, but a few simple steps, from using a forensic marking solution to planting spiky bushes, can make all the difference.

“Every year residents across Swale lose hundreds of pounds worth of equipment, from small garden tools to expensive ride-on mowers.

“Often this type of property isn’t traceable and so is easy to sell on, unless it has been marked with the owner’s postcode or with a forensic marking solution."

Police also advise homeowners to use sturdy locks and chains to protect their equipment.
