Students were evacuated from two universities this morning after a third bomb scare in just four days.

Police raced to Canterbury Christ Church University at 8.25am after staff received emails warning of explosives on the site.

Students and staff were cleared from the grounds while buildings were checked by officers and campus security.

Nothing suspicious was found and everyone was allowed back in at 9am.

Twenty minutes later police were called to the University of Kent following reports it had also received emailed bomb warnings.

Again students were evacuated, but nothing was found when buildings were searched.

The double bomb scare follows reports of worrying emails sent to Canterbury Christ Church University on Monday.

Officers arrived on scene at 7.40am and checked buildings as a precaution, re-opening them an hour later.

Canterbury Christ Church University spokesman Jeanette Earl said: “The safety and security of our students, staff and visitors is paramount and we take all threats seriously.

“We have policy and procedures for such occurrences and these were followed by staff and students, and we would like to thank them for their co-operation and patience.

“We will continue to work closely with Kent Police.”
