Unforced errors and poor decision-making sent Canterbury tumbling to their third consecutive defeat in National 2 South on Saturday.
The city club had plenty of chances against Dings Crusaders and should at least have picked up a bonus point. Instead, they made the trip back from Bristol empty-handed and beaten 40-20.
Scott Browne kicked a penalty to put Canterbury in front but full-back Mark Woodrow slotted two penalties and a drop-goal for Dings.
A Rob Dempsey try increased their lead but Sam Rogers scored at the other end to reduce the arrears. Back came the Crusaders and James Oakley touched down to make it 21-8 before Martyn Beaumont ended a period of Canterbury dominance with a try which Browne converted.
However, Woodrow took his individual tally to 25 points and dictated matters as Dings eased away in the closing stages. Wim Baars scored a consolation try for the city club, who now sit eighth in the table.
