Three people had to be treated by medics after a fire broke out in the roof space of two semi-detached houses in the early hours.
Three fire engines raced to the scene of the blaze in Shalmsford Street, Chartham at around 3.15am.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to tackle the flames.
Firefighters then used a fan to clear smoke from the roof space.
Three people were treated at the scene after suffering the effects of breathing smoke.
Crews left at around 5.30am.
