A 27-year-old man was left with a fractured jaw after an attack in Canterbury city centre.

The victim, from Whitstable, was in Rheims Way at about 1.20am on Sunday, October 30 when the incident took place.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Dave Wells said: “The victim was with his girlfriend and her friend outside the former Habitat store. He and his girlfriend were arguing when a man walked past and punched him in the face before running off along Rheims Way and then down the embankment towards Toddlers Cove.”

The victim was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford where he was treated for a fractured jaw. He also lost a tooth.

Police have issued an e-fit of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the assault.

Detective Constable Wells said: “The offender is described as being aged between 20 and 25, having short, spiky hair and was wearing a blue checked top. We would like anyone who saw the incident or recognises the description or the e-fit to contact us.”
