A thug who was spotted smashing the window of a Range Rover before punching two police officers, one on the forehead and another in the throat.

Jack Croft was on a road in Canterbury when he was seen starting to hit the vehicle.

A member of the public witnessed the incident and called the police and officers were sent to the scene.

After they arrived, Croft was nowhere to be seen but after getting a description of the offender, they realised who he might have been and later went to his address.

They could hear the 28-year-old shouting and swearing inside and when they knocked on his door, Croft became aggressive and punched PC Callum Wallis and PC Richard Patel.

The pair managed to restrain and arrest him. Croft, of Tennyson Avenue, Canterbury, was charged with two counts of assault on an emergency worker and one count of attempted criminal damage and threatening behaviour.

He admitted all four offences when he appeared before magistrates in Margate on March 2.

The court heard the incidents happened on September 10 last year.

Dylan Bradshaw, prosecuting, said: "He was seen punching the window of the Range Rover and the police were called and when they get there he had left.

"They realise who it is likely to be, and then there is another 999 call later in the evening and officers went to his address and he was shouting and swearing inside.

"They tell him he's going to be arrested and he punched one officer in the middle of the forehead and the other in the throat.

"He's then overpowered and taken to the police station."

Ian Bond, defending, also told the court his client had a history of mental un-wellness and a pre-sentencing report would be required to be completed before he was sentenced.

Magistrates agreed and ordered sentencing to be adjourned until June 12 at the same court.
