The Tigers put the new
ropes course to the test

SOLDIERS from Canterbury have been getting to grips with the
Tree Top Challenge at Howletts as they continue to build links with
the community.

As well as testing out the new attraction, the Third Battalion The
Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, the Territorial Army Infantry
Battalion for the South East of England or “Tigers”, came face to
face with their feline counterparts.

They then went head to head with staff at the animal park to see
who could complete the high wire course, which includes 15 raised
elements and a 40-metre zip wire, in the fastest time.

Captain Keith Roberts said: “The boys have got a heavy schedule as
they form the information team for the regiment.

“They go to schools, colleges, public service courses and are out
on the road a lot of the time.

“This is a chance for them to stretch their legs and do a bit of
physical activity, which they haven’t done for a while.

“When I started this job three years ago we were under-manned as a
regiment and the main issue was that our communities didn’t know
who we were or where we came from.

“We are the local regiment for Kent and we can’t do anything unless
we get community support.

“But over the last 18 months things have changed a great deal,
whether it is welfare boxes going out to Afghanistan or engagement
projects, we have a strong links with the community, which is a
major priority.”
