Protests against Donald Trump’s administration and visit to the United Kingdom are set to hit the streets of Canterbury this afternoon.
The US President will be meeting the Queen at Windsor Castle and Theresa May at her Buckinghamshire estate, Chequers, today.
Organised by Hannah Marendziuk-Uglow, a 41-year-old criminal defence solicitor from Canterbury, groups of people will be holding anti-Trump placards at Westgate Towers from 4.30pm.
She said the demonstration will be taking place to “resist his racism and politics of hate”.
“People don’t realise how dangerous he is,” she added. “They think he’s a funny character that you laugh and roll your eyes at.
“I’m holding it here because I have three children and don’t have enough money to go to London to scream and shout.
“He needs to understand that it’s not just middle class radicals in London who are protesting, but people all over the country.”
Ms Marendziuk-Uglow also labelled Trump’s "misogynistic" rhetoric as “outrageous”.
She is hoping to be joined by about 30 people at Westgate Towers.
“I originally thought it would just be me holding a placard that says ‘Trump means fart’,” she said.
“He has managed to create an environment where child migrants are perceived to be less human and less deserving. That’s what fascism does.
“It’s important to maintain a voice of outrage against outrageous things.”
