Two children have been arrested after they were spotted in a train station car park with screwdrivers and pliers.

Police were called to Canterbury East Station at 6.30 yesterday evening after reports of young people breaking into cars.

Two 10 and a 13-year-old boys were taken into custody suspected of vehicle interference and going equipped to steal.

A tweet from the British Transport Police said:”Officers were called by Southeastern Railway enforcement officers in relation to youths breaking into cars.

“Police were on scene within five minutes and caught the youths, who were found in possession of screwdrivers, pliers and gloves.

“They have been taken to custody and will be dealt with by our late turn officers.”

Media Officer for Southeastern Railway Jonny Holdcroft said: “'Our team work closely with our colleagues at British Transport Police to ensure the railway is safe and secure.”

A British Transport Police spokesperson added that the children were later returned to their home addresses while enquiries continue.
