Two men have been charged with conspiring to defraud an elderly victim in Canterbury.

Samheel Baig, 39, of Kelvin Road, Lanarkshire and Steven Forrest, 34, of Hill Terrace, Lanarkshire, are accused of courier fraud, or attempting to trick victims into withdrawing money and sending someone to collect it.

A search warrant was issued for the men in Scotland after a report of fraud in March.

Both have been charged with conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

They have been remanded in custody and will appear at Medway Magistrates Court on July 10.

A police statement said: "Police officers will never ask a member of the public to withdraw cash or send a courier to collect money or items from them.

"Any calls or requests from your bank should always be confirmed by contacting your bank or branch directly. Always use a phone that is different from the one you were called on and from which you hear a dial tone before dialling and use a number you have verified yourself from widely published sources."
