A BOY of 12 and a 60-year-old man leapt from a first-floor window to escape a fire in their home in the early hours of the morning.

Fifteen firefighters were called to the scene in Runcie Place, Canterbury, just before 2am.

The boy had jumped into the arms of neighbours, while the man was helped to safety after landing badly on the ground.

Both are being treated in Kent and Canterbury Hospital. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Fire crews left the scene at 4am.
