Two Hersden men appear in court over spate of burglaries near Canterbury villages of Wingham and Preston

Two suspected burglars have appeared in court in connection with a spate of break-ins.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place across Canterbury and Faversham between June and this month.

Paul Ellis, of Hersden, appeared before Medway Magistrates' Court today, charged with six counts of burglary.

Cash, jewellery and ornaments were all stolen in a spate of thefts in the villages of Sturry, Wingham and Preston, the court heard.

The 46-year-old was also charged with driving without a licence or insurance while using a mobile phone in Canterbury on Tuesday.

He also faced a further charge of assaulting an emergency worker in the city on the same day.

Ellis was remanded in custody to appear before Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, September 21.

Dean Bushell, of Hersden, also appeared before the court today and was charged with three counts of burglary, relating to incidents in Wingham and Preston on Thursday, August 6.

The 34-year-old was bailed to appear at the same court as Ellis on the same date.
