A woman has been arrested after the University of Kent was evacuated this morning for the second time in two days following a suspicious phone call.
Police cordoned off areas, the library and other buildings were evacuated and one student reported a number of alarms ringing out across campus after a member of staff received a hoax call.
A 40-year-old woman from Whitstable has now been arrested on suspicion of communicating false information and remains in police custody.
Officers raced to the campus at around 8am following reports of a suspicious phone call, less than 24 hours after a suspect device was discovered and caused a similar evacuation and police response.
A police spokesman said officers believe the two incidents could be linked but this has not been confirmed.
They said: "Police were made aware of a suspicious call received by a member of staff at the university.
"Officers attended the scene and a search of the grounds was carried out. No devices were found.
"An investigation is underway."
Spokesman for the university Martin Herrema said: "University of Kent buildings at its Canterbury campus - including the Templeman Library - which were temporarily evacuated earlier due to a security alert have all reopened.
"It is now back to business as usual."
Yesterday, police were called to the same campus around 10.45am where students were forced to leave a number of buildings.
One student had been in the library cafe when security walked in and told everyone to leave and move away from the building.
Police later confirmed that the suspect device was found to be harmless and they were conducting an investigation to determine how it had got there.
The incident comes less than three months after the campus was evacuated because of a bomb scare.
An anonymous phone call sparked a suspected bomb scare and the evacuation of buildings.
Emergency crews raced to the campus in Giles Lane, Canterbury, after concerned staff alerted police following the call at 10.40am.
Students were forced to leave the university's Templeman library, which was cordoned off by officers while a search was carried out.
