A university student has been found dead in her bedroom by a housemate.

Gaelle Wauquier, 21, was discovered at the property in Sussex Avenue, Canterbury. Police say there are no suspicious circumstances.

Miss Wauquier, who was French, had recently gained a 2.1 in English from Kent University.

A close friend, Steve Wheatcroft, who is a post graduate at Christ Church University, said everyone who knew her had been shocked and saddened by her sudden death.

She lived in student digs and her body was discovered on Saturday, June 21, by one of her housemates.

Mr Wheatcroft said Miss Wauquier suffered with a heart condition for which she took medication and had been anxious about her exam results.

But he said she had been ecstatic with her grade and had also passed her driving theory test in the same week.

He added: “She was an avid reader and wanted to do a masters and become a journalist.

“Her parents live in Shanghai and I think she planned to join an English speaking newspaper there.

“She was very caring and mature for her age and was certainly not your average undergraduate.”

A post mortem has taken place but further tests have been requested. An inquest has been opened and adjourned.
