Vegan activists have targeted a city centre takeaway with hate mail - threatening its “butcher” owner with sadistic violence.
Pork & Co in Canterbury specialises in pulled pork rolls made from roasted mature pigs - not suckling pigs - which are laid out in its window display.
One reviewer on the firm’s Facebook page, identified as Denise Bottali, described owner Sam Deeson as “evil incarnate” and wrote “Let me at him with a pair of scissors”.
Another, called Andy Hancock, said ominously “His turn is coming” and added “I’d hang him by his saggy b****.”
One commenter, Robert Smith, described the team as “psychopaths” while Nina Petanic writes “hope they go bankrupt”.
Another commenter, Anne Hodgkinson, suggested meat-eating will be confined to the “annuls of history [sic]” as slavery was, while Janet Tomsen said “This is disgusting and murder!”.
Kendy McCloud questioned the effects of the window display, writing “Why the blatant use of a carcass... We were visiting from London and it made my vegetarian children extremely upset.”
The comments are tempered by numerous rave reviews as well as messages of support.
Jamie Tilbrook writes: “Reviews are well off, trying to ruin someone’s business just because you don’t eat meat!”
The Kent Vegan Society is also mobilising protesters to demonstrate outside the business this weekend.
Many of the comments have since been removed. Mr Deeson declined to comment.
A print version of this story in today's Kentish Gazette incorrectly states that Mr Deeson's display features suckling pigs. They are in fact mature pigs.
