Canterbury St Nicholas parade: Broken-down float gets a push through the city

A Christmas parade came to a standstill this afternoon after St Nic's float broke down and had to be pushed through the high street.

The blue golf-buggy carrying the saint himself - which was followed by a long procession of musicians and performers and watched by hundreds lining the streets of Canterbury - appeared to grind to a halt in the middle of the city centre.

A video released to KentOnline shows the commotion unfold as a group of noble onlookers step in and give the float a push to continue its journey.

St Nicholas, the patron saint of children, is celebrated every year with a parade through the city and a service at the Cathedral, led by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The festival is in its 16th year.
