All together now, aahhh. New born lambs were the main attraction at an open day at the Kent College farm in Canterbury on Saturday.
Just two weeks old, six of this season’s group of texel lambs have no mothers.
“It’s been a really good lambing season and this group are proving to be very energetic,” said farm manager Ian Lockwood.
“We invite all the local schools along every year at the start of spring to see what farm life is like and the parents love coming down to.
“Children get the chance to run around in the pen with the lambs and have a go at feeding them too with their bottles and the reaction is great to see.”
The farm at Moat Lane, Rough Common, is an educational resource owned and managed by Kent College. Their Young Farmers’ Club is open to boys and girls from age 11, offering a the chance to learn more about farming and land management. The 55 acre site also has cattle, poultry, rabbits and guinea pigs.
Equine manager Beatrice Boyle runs the farm’s stables and also co-ordinates school groups.
