The first Y Front Walk in Faversham takes place at Faversham Rec on Sunday to raise money and awareness of men’s cancers.

Walkers and runners will set off at 11am after being welcomed and signed in. Entry is free.

The event has been organised by Faversham’s fundraising group for Cancer Research UK and is open to men of all ages.

Participants can walk or run the 5 kilometres around the park and wearing silly Y Fronts over shorts is not essential.

The fundraising committee is based at the Preston Street Cancer Research UK shop and anyone wanting to take part should collect sponsorship forms and details there or phone 01795 533325.

Jeanette Woodcock, chairman of the group and shop volunteer said: "We see a lot of valuable promotion for women’s cancers, but we wanted to shout about men’s cancers too, especially as a lot of our committee know men who have been directly affected.

"The Y Front Walk looks set to be lots of fun and we hope to make it an annual event."

More than one in three people in the UK will develop cancer. The disease mainly affects older people, with nearly nine out of 10 cases in people over 50.

The three most common cancers affecting men in the UK are prostate, lung and bowel cancer.
