Weekend men's hockey round-up

ENGLAND Under-21 captain Chris Pryce scored for Canterbury as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Hampstead & Westminster on the opening day of the Slazenger Men's Premier Division on Sunday.

All three goals came in the space of six second half minutes. Andy Cornick put Hampstead and Westminster ahead, before Pryce hit Canterbury's equaliser three minutes later, converting a well-rehearsed penalty corner.

However, Hampsead restored their lead soon afterwards when James Edlington got the winner.

A double from Nick Bluett helped Bromley & Beckenham ease to a 3-1 win over previously unbeaten Ipswich in the National South Division on Sunday.

Dan Holmes gave BromBeck a fourth minute lead, before Bluett struck on nine and 13 minutes, with all goals coming from open play.

Mark Wrinch netted a consolation for Ipswich late in the game, but it wasn't enough to stop BromBeck from recording their first league win of the season.

Bromley & Beckenham suffered a 4-1 defeat against Indian Gymkhana on Saturday. Will Bishop gave Bromley an early lead before Gymkhana took control.

Holcombe remained undefeated with a win and a draw from two National South Division matches at the weekend.

They followed up their 6-3 home win over Whitchurch on Saturday with an exciting 3-3 draw at University of Exeter the following day.

Dave Matthews rattled in four goals during the win against Whitchurch while there was a goal apiece Danny Laslet and Denzil Dolly.

When Holcs travelled to University of Exeter, Matthews, Lasley and Dolly were once again on target, but Matthews had two penalty flicks saved.
