Chairman Joe Brownett has called for a "spirited display" in Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Worthing to help banish the memories of Whitstable Town’s bank holiday weekend horrow show.

After winning their opening two games in Ryman League Division 1 South, the wheels suddenly came off for Peter Nott’s side as they lost 2-0 at Merstham on Saturday followed by a 4-1 thumping at Folkestone Invicta on Monday.

Nott was at a loss to explain the sudden loss of form, with Mr Brownett (pictured) saying: "It was good that Peter acknowledged to me that both performances were well below what we were expecting after making such a strong start of the season.

"Everyone at the club knows we must get back on track quickly and a spirited display this Saturday against Worthing in the FA Cup is a must."

Manager Nott had been forced to make a very late change to his line-up at Folkestone, with Ashley Ulph informing the manager that he wasn’t fit to play minutes before the kick-off after twisting his ankle in the warm-up.

Nott made his displeasure clear to Ulph and admitted after the game that he "had to make changes very quickly" ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup preliminary round home tie with a Worthing side who have won three of their opening four games in Ryman 1 South.

Assistant manager Steve Nolan, who confirmed that midfielder Dan Wisker would again be missing on Saturday because of a thigh injury, said: "They were two disappointing performances and the cup tie gives us a little break from the league, and the chance to put things right. We will definitely be looking for a response from the players."
