Whitstable Town boss Justin Luchford claims he had no intention of walking away from Whitstable, after seeing an upturn in their league fortunes.

The Oystermen broke their duck in Ryman League Division 1 South with a 2-0 win over Eastbourne on Saturday, but less than 48 hours before that, Luchford had been in a ‘no holds barred’ summit with supporters at the Belmont, frustrated by the club’s sluggish start to the campaign.

He said: "We were on a bad run so I knew everyone was going to be up for telling me that I don’t know what I’m doing. No questions were off limits, so it was a no holds barred two-and-a-half hour conversation.

"It wasn’t always comfortable but I think everyone can take a lot of out of it."

He revealed: "I told them if there was a time in a few weeks that I was sacked or walked away because of the results, then it would not have been for the lack of trying on my part.

"I never had any thoughts about walking away though.

"On our day we are good and could have been at the other end of the table already this season.

"But we have got the first win, now we need to work hard to get results."

He added: "The aim is to get in the top half inside 10 games. If you can do that then you’re right in there and anything can happen."

Town visit Walton Casuals on Saturday looking to make it three league games unbeaten.

"It’s important we try to get some positive momentum going now," Luchford added.
