A woman has died after being hit by a van on an A-road.
Police are appealing for information following the incident in the early hours of yesterday morning near Canterbury.
Emergency services were called to the A2050 Roman Road after a white Ford Transit Connect van was involved in a collision with the pedestrian at about 1.50am.
The road was shut in both directions between The Old Gate Inn pub and the A2 junction for Canterbury East/Bridge.
The pedestrian, a woman in her early 70s from Herne Bay, was confirmed dead at the scene.
The closure lasted about seven hours to allow investigation work to take place.
Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are carrying out inquiries and would like to hear from anyone who might have witnessed the collision.
They are also appealing for anybody with dashcam footage taken in the area around the time to come forward.
Anyone who believes they saw the pedestrian prior to the collision should also call.
She was understood to be wearing a yellow knitted cardigan and a dark coloured varsity-style jacket with ‘Yale University’ printed on the back.
