Paramedics were called to a construction site in Canterbury after a workman fell and suffered severe injuries this morning.
The man, believed to be in his 40s, was working at a height on a new student development behind Augustine House in Rhodaus Town.
He is believed to have been impaled on a scaffolding pole or piece of metal after falling one metre down, suffering a deep wound in his back.
Ambulance service spokesman Rich Airey said a hazardous response team was dispatched and used specialist equipment to bring the man down safely after paramedics arrived at 9.30am.
He added that the man remained fully conscious and was given pain relief before being taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford at 11am.
The Health and Safety Executive is expected to investigate the incident.
