It might have been the chillier weather or even a little
traditional male modesty, but the first ever Y-Front Walk in
Faversham for Cancer Research on Sunday did not get the support
organisers had hoped for.
The event at the town’s recreation ground attracted 25 entries who
walked four times around the rec and raised £1,300 for the
charity.
But the charity’s fundraising co-ordinator for Faversham, Jeanette
Woodcock said afterwards that she was disappointed there were not
more entries.
The event was specifically designed to encourage men to take part
to help fund the research and treatment of prostate cancer.
She said: “The signs were that it would be well attended but not as
many turned up as we had expected.
"Perhaps it was the weather but we hoped more would take part,
because we had widely advertised it.
“But I am still pleased we have sponsorship pledges of £1,300
because we have to start somewhere and it gives us a foundation to
work on for next year and hopefully make it more popular.”
