A young couple were beaten up outside a city takeaway by two men who launched an unprovoked attack on them, say police.
Now officers are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened in Church Street St Paul's shortly after midnight on Monday, July 18.
PC Dan Martin from Canterbury Police Station said: "The victims, a 19-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, had been drinking in a pub in Burgate earlier in the evening, as had the two offenders.
"When the couple later went to a takeaway they came across the offenders again. This time the two men goaded the couple before assaulting them and running off."
The woman suffered a heavily bruised left eye and needed two stitches. Her companion was left with minor scratches to his arms.
Both offenders are white. One was of a slim build with collar-length straight brown hair and was wearing a purple polo shirt and blue jeans. The second man was aged 18-20, was of a stocky build with spiked dark brown hair and was about 5ft 11in tall. He was wearing a grey jumper and blue jeans.
PC Martin added: "We would like to hear from anyone who saw the assault or events leading up to it, or who recognises the descriptions of the two offenders. They should phone Kent Police on 01622 690690 or Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting crime numbers EY/11680/11 and EY/11681/11."
