All-rounders secure Kent victory

TOP-DRAWER performances from Kent's Mark Ealham and James Golding led to yesterday’s shock 21-run win against India at Canterbury.

The two all-rounders claimed four wickets each to inflict the first defeat of the Indian tour and ensure a miserable return to St Lawrence for former Kent coach John Wright and their overseas player of the 2000 season Rahul Dravid.

"I’ve not really been bowling as well as I’d like to so did some work with Ian Brayshaw out in the nets this morning and its really paid off," said Golding after career-best one-day figures of four for 42.I got a couple of lucky wickets but it was nice to get Tendulkar. When he came in I spoke to Ealy and he told me to try and mix up my pace.

"The first slower ball I bowled to him turned out to be the slow long-hop that he played on to middle stump. I work quite closely with Ealy when I bowl and quite often you’ll see him at mid-on or mid-off and helps me a lot with my lines and what pace I ought to be bowling on different pitches.

"The last two years have been frustrating and stop-start through injury, so the key from here on is consistency."
