After-dark rallycross will be held at Lydden Hill for the second time this weekend – almost a year after a successful trial of the concept.

Circuit bosses erected 25 lighting towers around the one-mile circuit last December to allow competitors in the British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy to race under floodlights.

The event, which was won by former Sittingbourne resident Liam Doran, was deemed a success but was held behind closed doors due to Covid rules.

With restrictions now eased, spectators will be able to attend this weekend's meeting, which has attracted 10 entries in the headline Supercar category.

The after-dark rallycross will only be held on Saturday, with a 10-minute fireworks display following the last race of the day at about 5.45pm.

Daylight racing will continue on Sunday with action between 10.30am and 4pm.

In the Supercar class, Ollie O'Donovan holds a 10-point lead over fellow Irishman Derek Tohill, with six-time champion Julian Godfrey in third.

Adisham's Tristan Ovenden will be in action in his Citroen DS3 – the same car driven by his Sittingbourne-based rival Mike Sellar.
