Kent coach Mike Yardy is leaving St Lawrence and rejoining Sussex.

Yardy, who joined Kent in 2020 as specialist batting coach from Hove, was part of the coaching staff that oversaw Spitfires' T20 Blast victory in September - their first trophy for 14 years.

The former England T20 World Cup winner is returning to Sussex as academy director, where he will oversee the academy and pathway.

He said: “I’ve massively enjoyed my two seasons at Kent, which is a special club with a special group of players.

“I’ve made some great friends there and it was great to be part of the Spitfires’ success last season, more of which I’m sure will follow.”

Kent’s director of cricket, Paul Downton, said: “We are sorry to see Yards leave the club.

"Along with (head coach) Matt Walker and (bowling coach) Simon Cook, Mike has done a fantastic job over the past two seasons to help improve our players and was a significant contributor to the club winning a trophy for the first time in 14 years.

“We wish him nothing but the best in his new role at Sussex and he will always be welcome back at the Spitfire Ground.”
