Canterbury City boss Clive Cook has named seven more new signings to add to the six unveiled last week.

Among those to join his project are Dean Grant, Renford Tenyue, Ben Wilson, Matt Day, Brett Ince, Will Thomas and Joe Denny.

While pleased with his business thus far, Cook is refusing to close the door on opportunities to strengthen his squad further.

Cook said: “Dean Grant was with me for two or three seasons at Hythe, Renford Tenya was at Canterbury and played for Faversham last year.

“Ben Wilson is a left-back with a cultured left-foot, he was at Chatham last year, Matt Day was at Millwall as a youngster and played at Ashford and East Grinstead last year.

“Brett Ince is only young but he’s been around the circuit. I saw him when he was at Ashford – he’s got tons of energy.

“Will Thomas was at Sheppey last year, he’s been at East Grinstead and was with me at Hythe. He was also with the Maidstone Academy, he’s a very good centre-half.

“I’ve also got a bit of a coup, I signed Joe Denny on Monday evening. He was at VCD last year.

“He’s a big, strong centre-half, I’m really pleased to get him on board, he’s got a great attitude and I think there are some big things to come from him.”

The latest arrivals follow Joe Mant, Callum Emptage, Jordan Wright, Jack Healey, Liam King and Clark Woodcock through the door at Canterbury.

Cook added: “I feel the squad is done, if something comes along though I do love a dabble obviously depending on finances and where we are, it’s all about getting the right blend.

“We won’t bring somebody in if they aren’t going to make the squad better.

“I’m quietly excited, I feel it’s a very good squad but we’ve got to prove it now.

“Football is a funny game, it can come back to bite you so it’s all about proving a point, let’s go out there and enjoy it.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to watching football with my own squad, pre-season is to get them fit again, I don’t really look at the results. I look at how we play, what shape we can play.”

A key figure in overseeing the interaction of experienced and younger members of the team will be Cook’s son Dave, who joined as a player/assistant manager from Faversham.

Cook explained: “Dave is a big player in this because he gels the dressing room, he gains respect. He’ll probably be the ‘go between’ for the players and management.

“I’m very happy with the mix we’ve got and the level of experience they have got in the leagues above.”
