Kent are set to receive a timely boost with the return of England international Joe Denly on Tuesday.

The Spitfires have lost both of their opening games in the Royal London One-Day Cup this season, posting low totals with the bat each time.

But 33-year-old Denly tweeted on Saturday that he is returning from the Indian Premier League and looking forward to linking up with Kent on Tuesday.

Kent, who host Sussex at Beckenham on Sunday, then travel to Gloucestershire on Tuesday and Glamorgan on Thursday in the same competition having already been beaten by Hampshire and Somerset.

The Spitfires are currently without stand-in captain Heino Kuhn through a back injury while Daniel Bell-Drummond missed out against Somerset due to a family bereavement, stretching their batting resources with Sam Billings also missing the start of the campaign after being involved in the IPL.

Denly has been a virtual spectator for Kolkata Knight Riders during the IPL, making just one appearance when he was out for a golden duck against Delhi Capitals on April 12.

However, he enjoyed great success in last season's Royal One-Day Cup, scoring 492 runs and taking 14 wickets as Kent eventually made it to the final where they lost to Hampshire. He was the PCA’s Most Valuable Player in the competition's rankings.

Denly's return for Kent comes ahead of him linking up with the England squad at the end of this month, ahead of the World Cup later this summer.
