Manager Clive Cook has welcomed another two new signings as part of his Canterbury City rebuild.

The versatile Louis Sprosen has joined the club after making 12 appearances across all competitions for Whitstable last season.

Defender Giorgio Rosso also arrives having previously spent time with Faversham and Hythe.

Cook said: “Louis Sprosen has been around, he’s a young lad. He’s good in the dressing room, can play a lot of positions, he’s experienced for such a young age and has played for good clubs.

“He can play full-back, midfield and as a No.10. He was at Whitstable when they won the Kent League, that was one of his best spells. He just needs to settle down at a club now.

“Giorgio was with me at Hythe, and Faversham before that, but left due to work commitments and wants to get back in now. He’s a bit of a ‘who knows?’ person. He’s a good right-sided full-back, it’s a matter of where we go and seeing what his fitness is like.”

Cook has another potential addition in the pipeline and is also preparing to welcome a batch of trialists for the club’s pre-season.

He added: “I’m having a nibble at one other, he will complement our squad greatly.

“I’ve got five trialists coming in. There’s two lads I’m looking at, one is a forward and played at quite a high level. He’s been badgering me all close season about coming down.

“There’s another coming from an academy in the Football League because Canterbury has an academy and he’s going there, so I’m very interested in that one. I’m trying to tie him down now, he’s a defender/holding midfield player.

“I’m as finished as finished goes (with signings), but I’m not fully completed in my mind.”

Canterbury are due to stage a players’ meeting today (Thursday) before returning to full training on Saturday.

While Cook already has an idea of his line-up, the former Hythe boss admits pre-season stages an opportunity for players to alter his plans.

“Pre-season is about the gelling of the squad, once we’ve had three or four sessions of training you can then see how the squad is gelling,” he explained.

“My first two or three friendlies will be about analysing the squad, giving the trialists a fair opportunity. The last three against Bostik South teams will probably be stronger sides, it depends on how the first three go, though.

“I know most of the players anyway, I’ve got a team in my mind but that changes as pre-season changes.

“You’d be silly if you didn’t have some sort of idea as to what you’re doing. You tend to sign a player and then look at crosses in the side and start filling in names against the crosses. You always get one or two you actually think ‘wow, I didn’t realise that’, we’re all excited.”
