Will Gidman believes he still hasn’t achieved his full potential in the white-ball format of cricket during his career.

The 33-year-old all-rounder did not feature in any of Kent’s Natwest T20 Blast or Royal London One-Day matches in 2017.

However, he took career-best figures of 4-20 in Kent’s second match with Guyana of the West Indies Super50 tournament last month, showing that he still has something to offer.

Gidman said: “I still feel I can contribute in all forms of the game. It is an ambition of mine to get back in the team and to do my career some justice. I feel I have underachieved in white-ball cricket and want to amend that.

“All I can do is train hard and make sure I look after myself and the results of that will look after themselves.”

He took 10 wickets during the pre-season tour at an average of 19.6 and he also averaged 19.3 with the bat with a top score of 29 not out.

Kent managed to reach the semi-finals of the competition but were beaten by Barbados.

Gidman said: “The lads did fantastically well. We felt we had a chance of winning it, so you get to a point where there was a disappointment that we could not go all the way.

“The bowling side of things I felt went nicely and I put in a couple of good performances.

“I was a bit disappointed with the performances with the bat. I contributed with a couple of scores to the total but I would have liked to get a couple of big scores to push my case to get back in the white-ball side.”
