Darren Stevens reached three figures for Kent for the second time this season to help Kent secure an LV= County Championship draw with Glamorgan at Canterbury on Saturday.

After scores of 97 and 96 in his two previous championship matches, Stevens made no mistake this time as his 119 in the second innings helped Kent recover from another first innings disaster to salvage a draw.

Stevens now averages 56.20 in championship cricket this summer with 562 runs in 10 innings, including two centuries.

Kent followed on 243 runs behind Glamorgan after they were bowled out for just 135 in less than 47 overs.

But half-centuries from Rob Key, Brendan Nash and Ben Harmison ensured Kent kept Glamorgan at bay and prevented another home embarrassment at Canterbury.

The loss of Key before the close on day three saw Kent start the final morning with a lead of just 11. As with the previous day, it was Stevens and Harmison who walked to the crease but while on day three the overnight score of 73-4 became 135 all out, this time around they managed to put on 163 for the fifth wicket alone.

Harmison’s innings ended when he was run out, going for a second, from the cover boundary.

Stevens followed for 119 when he became one of Dean Cosker’s five victims. Geraint Jones (15) went soon after but loan signing Mitchell Claydon (40) along with Calum Haggett and Charlie Shreck, whose 19 not out equalled his career best, ensured there was to be no late run chase for Glamorgan.

Kent appeared to have the better of a rain-affected first day as Glamorgan closed on 155-4 with Haggett claiming three wickets. However, former Sussex veteran Murray Goodwin hit 136 on day two and received good support to help Glamorgan to 378.

Haggett was the most successful Kent bowler with a career-best 4-94 while Shreck took 3-107 and Claydon finished strongly to bag 3-85.

In reply, only Key (23) went beyond 16 for the home side who again found ways of getting a start before being dismissed. Kent went from 50-1 to 110-9 with last-pair Riley and Shreck (15 not out) taking them to 135.
