Kent Cricket's former England wicketkeeper Geraint Jones knows he faces a fight to keep his starting place

Kent’s former England wicketkeeper/batsman Geraint Jones admits he is facing an uncertain season.
Fourteen years after he wrote to the county asking for a trial, he’s not sure how much he’ll feature in this campaign.
He turns 38 in July but he still looks as fit as he did when he first arrived in Canterbury and he still has the hunger to deliver the runs that have flowed for so many seasons.
He’s scored 8,479 first class runs for Kent at 32.26 – 403 of those came last season at 23.71. He’d love to improve on that but knows he might not get too many opportunities to do so.
He said: “There are no guarantees in this game – I’ve been around long enough to realise that. I just don’t know how much I’ll play but I will give it my all in whatever side I get selected in.
“I know I am in the twilight of my career and I am just going to enjoy each and every day of the season, regardless of what team I play for.”
Jones – under pressure from Sam Billings for his place in all forms of the game – has always played with a straight bat when it comes to being honest.
That wasn’t about to change when it came to talking about how long he thought he could carry on for.
He said: “Let’s say that I don’t want to be playing if I am not enjoying it. There is no way that I want to find myself going through the motions and keeping someone out of the side by doing so.”
And it is the youngsters who Jones is determined to help. He said: “Hopefully, my experience will help with their development and they make the most of the opportunity.
“It would be great to help them and the county build towards the future.”
