Kent lose LV= County Championship Division 2 clash against Surrey by three wickets

Kent’s three-game winning run in all competitions ended with a three-wicket loss against Surrey in the LV= County Championship Division 2 clash at Beckenham on Wednesday.

Set 195 to win, Surrey, who started the day on 44-1, were wobbling at at 108-5 at one stage before No.7 Jason Roy hammered an unbeaten 60 off 51 balls to guide his side home.

Roy hit 11 fours in his innings to wrap up the win with 56.5 overs to spare.

Earlier, Matt Coles (2-75) made Kent’s most important breakthrough of the morning, trapping Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara leg-before for 8.

All-rounder Darren Stevens (3-29) also chipped in with the wickets of Rory Burns (37) and nightwatchman Matt Dunn (13).

Stevens then caught Dominic Sibley (17) at first slip off Ivan Thomas (1-15) before Roy, who almost played on to his first ball from Thomas, shared a sixth-wicket partnership of 54 with Steven Davies (35) to take Surrey to the brink of victory.

Rob Key hit 89 on his return to the team on day one on Sunday as Kent posted 282 all-out. Key added 133 for the third-wicket with captain Sam Northeast (73).

The visitors were dismissed for 292 in reply with Coles (4-81) and Stevens (4-48) doing the damage.

Opener Joe Denly (66) top-scored in Kent’s second innings which saw Northeast’s side lose three wickets in four balls to left-arm spinner Zafar Ansari (4-58) as the hosts collapsed from 97-2 to 204 all-out.
