An unbroken ninth-wicket stand proved vital as St Lawrence & Highland Court edged their city derby in the Kent League Premier Division at Canterbury by two wickets on Saturday.

Chasing 204 for victory at Polo Farm, the away side looked some way short at 162-8 - until captain Matt Hammond (36 not out) and No.10 Jamie Hemphrey (11 not out) put on 52 runs to get them home.

That came during the run-chase after Australian overseas all-rounder Jason Sangha had given them a good platform with a 95-ball 97, despite four wickets apiece for Canterbury duo Jarred Lysaught (4-31) and Syan Bulathsinhala (4-48).

Earlier, Lewis White (51) top scored in the hosts’ 203 all out as former Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens produced figures of 3-33 from his 10 overs.

Minster beat Bexley at home by 45 runs to make it two league wins from two this summer.

Half-centuries from skipper David Masters (60) - opening the batting - and Kai Appleby (53) got them to 242-9 while Jack Sinfield (3-33) bowled well for Bexley.

Former Essex spinner Aron Nijjar (4-57), on loan at Kent last year, impressed to leave the away team well short. That was despite a 44-ball 46 by Bexley captain Matthew Stiddard.

Defending champions Lordswood also made it two league victories from two with a three-wicket win at Bickley Park.

Park reached a 50-over total of 202-9, largely thanks to 83 from captain Elliot Hooper. South African overseas Thando Ntini (4-38) was best with the ball for Lordswood.

Wicketkeeper Max Wood top scored with 37 in reply, an unbeaten 23-ball 31 by Ed Taylor then getting them over the line, despite 3-32 for Hooper.

Matthew Golding-inspired Blackheath edged to a narrow victory at Sandwich Town.

They made 198-8 from their 50 overs. Golding (55) led the charge, while opening home bowler Alex Smith did well to claim 4-26 from 10 overs.

In reply, Golding (3-39) dismissed Sandwich’s top three and, although Alex Smith (47) and Jake Smith (36 not out) offered hope for the home contingent, it wasn’t enough. They could only reach 179-8.

Hayes earned a four-wicket home win over Tunbridge Wells.

A 40-ball Viraj Bhatia 59 got the visitors to 177 all out despite 4-35 from 10 overs by Alfie Peck.

Dileepa Jayalath (2-49) did well for Tunbridge Wells but it wasn’t enough, home opening batsman Gareth Severin leading the way with a 32-ball 40.
