Matt Walker: Kent head coach calls for the 'whole package' from his side

Head coach Matt Walker says Kent need to deliver the ‘whole package’ rather than moments of promise to discover some winning form in Division 1.
Kent host Somerset at Canterbury on Monday, looking to make amends for a final-day collapse at Taunton in their opening game reverse.
They enter the game off the back of a 113-run defeat to Essex in which another disappointing batting display proved costly.
Walker said: “Going back to that game, we played good cricket over those three days and had that game in the palm of our hand. What’s been apparent over these games is that we can compete against all these teams.
“Apart from maybe the Warwickshire game, we haven’t really put a full package together. There have been good chunks and good periods of play, the objective is to make sure we put the whole package together.
“There have been some really good periods. We looked good in that first session against Essex, threatened with the ball and possibly didn’t get the rewards we deserved.
“We just need to keep believing. We’ve been playing good cricket, just not for long enough. We know the level we need to play at across all four days. We can’t have a bad session or a bad day, there have been some really good individual performances and we’ve scrapped really hard.
“We showed real fight and character against Surrey and Yorkshire, we have to translate that now into first innings batting where we can put ourselves in more control.
“There have been some great individual moments. The key to any good side though is being consistent. People are scoring runs but we want to be doing it consistently as a group. We need two, three or four people stepping up to the plate.”
