Kent have signed South African born batsman Sean Dickson after a string of impressive performances for the 2nd XI this season.

Dickson, who has UK passport as his mum is from Kent meaning he is not classed an overseas player, has hit two hundreds in four appearances in the 2nd XI Championship.

The 23-year-old has also scored two half-centuries in the competition and averages an impressive 76.

He has also scored a T20 century and averages 39.5 in six matches for Kent and scored 83 in the 2nd XI Trophy win against Gloucestershire at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence on Monday.

You can also add the 135 and 65 he scored in the friendly against Yorkshire at Polo Farm in May to his impressive haul - that attack included England paceman Liam Plunkett.

Dickson, who first came to Kent’s attention when he attended a pre-season trial in March, has played first-class cricket for Northerns in South Africa.

While he is thrilled to put pen-to-paper, Dickson is keeping his feet firmly on the ground before any talk of making his first team debut.

He said: “I can’t be impatient and need to keep scoring runs as many runs as I can and not get hasty.

“It’s been a great experience so far and the lads have welcomed me into the squad.

“My mum is from Beckenham and told me a lot about The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence and the old Lime Tree so to play for this club is a privilege.”

Kent high performance director Simon Willis, who manages the 2nd XI, said: “Sean shows a great maturity with the bat and understands his game well.

“He plays to his strengths and is a calming influence around the dressing room.

“The number of runs he has scored in all formats is testament to his focus and concentration.”
