Sam Northeast says Saturday’s Royal London One-Day Cup collapse against Lancashire was possibly the most ‘annoying’ performances of his captaincy.
Kent looked well-placed to record a crucial win in their quest to reach the knockout stages after restricting the visitors to 258-9 from 50 overs, however they collapsed to 95-6 in reply and despite a late blast of 89 from 56 balls from Alex Blake, the hosts fell 51 runs short.
Northeast admitted: “Blakey came in and played with a bit of intent. The most disappointing thing from the batting perspective is that we didn’t show enough intent.
“It was a bit of a tame performance from us until he came in and showed what was possible. From that perspective it was one of the most annoying performances from us this year.
“If you go out and if you give it your all, with 100% intent, with no fear of failing, then I don’t mind coming out on the wrong side of it, but from that perspective, (Saturday) was pretty frustrating.”
He added: “I said (in the dressing room), I don’t mind losing as long as we leave nothing out on the park. We didn’t play with enough intent, it was a bit of a tame effort and that annoys me. Everyone was pretty frustrated.”
