Matt Walker is happy that Kent control their own fate going into the last two matches of the Vitality Blast campaign.

His side know that one victory will see them qualify for the knockout stages and two would possibly give them a home tie.

Spitfires host Somerset on Thursday and their final match is at Essex on Friday.

Head coach Walker said: “You don’t want to go into those last couple of games relying on other teams losing and we won’t be as it’s in our hands.

“We’ve got two more big games to finish it off.

“I don’t think we’ve played our best cricket at all in this competition, which is an exciting thought. There’s more to come. You very rarely play the perfect game in a T20 match.

“It’s a different looking South Group this year. You’ve got three at the bottom and the rest all scraping hard to find a place in the top four.

“You’ve got to keep going and keep winning games of cricket.”

Kent have enjoyed a successful time against Somerset in the T20 competition. Spitfires have won the last nine matches between the two sides and the last time Somerset beat Kent was in 2011.

They have also never won at The Spitfire Ground in a T20 match.

However, Somerset have been in superb form in the Vitality Blast this year and have won their last seven matches to take a commanding lead at the top of the table.

Walker said: “They will be a different prospect this time around. They will be a much more confident side regardless of the fact it is Kent playing them.

“I’m sure it will still play on their mind. It’s at our place and make sure we put on a show. We haven’t played our best cricket at home in all competitions this year.”

If Kent lost to Somerset on Thursday, Walker’s side face the prospect of travelling to Chelmsford on Friday night needing a victory to qualify.

Walker added: “You don’t want to go into that last game having to win. It will be nice to go into that last game knowing the work has been done. It’s another game in a 14 match group stage and we will treat every game as seriously as each other.

“You have to be at your best in any T20 game. We’ve been good enough to get where we are and it’s nice to know there’s more in the tank to come.”

Following the conclusion of the Vitality Blast group stages, Kent will travel to Leicestershire for a Specsavers County Championship Division 2 match.
