Heino Kuhn was proud to have passed 10,000 first-class runs as he steered Kent’s run chase to victory at Glamorgan.

The 33-year-old South African scored 69 not out at Cardiff as Kent won by six wickets.

He now averages 42 in the opening three County Championship matches of the season.

Kuhn said: “I never look at my stats but I did know about that one. I think I needed 58 before the game and then got zero in the first innings.

“When I got to 58 I didn’t think anything of it and then after the game Darren Stevens came to me and said congrats so then I remembered.”

“I’m happy that it has happened and pleased and privileged to have reached that milestone.”

Kuhn was also full of praise for the performance of the bowling attack after Glamorgan were bowled out for 94 in their first innings.

He said: “It’s a world-class attack.Matt Henry is world class and already has 27 wickets. I had only heard about Darren Stevens before I came here and from what I have seen now he is pretty special.

“Guys like Harry Podmore, Ivan Thomas and Will Gidman have been brilliant. Even though they have not been getting a lot of wickets they are keeping the run rate down and building a lot of pressure.”

The South African was complimentary about his fellow batters who made light work of chasing down the runs in the second innings.

He also said the lead of 80 in the first innings was a good return considering the conditions in Cardiff.

Kuhn said: “I think it was a very good all round performance.

“The bowlers all did their jobs and the batters backed them up and finished off the game again.

“The first innings the pitch was a little tricky and even though we didn’t get the wickets in the first session we bowled well to keep the run rate down.

“Batting wasn’t easy but we managed to get a lead and any lead on that pitch was good. The bowlers did well to restrict them to under 200 for us to chase.

“For the openers to get us to 77 made it a lot easier for us guys coming in to finish the game.”
