More than 300 fans witnessed Kent Women’s first-ever floodlit match at Canterbury.

The exhibition T20 fixture, against Essex, was abandoned due to rain with the visitors 86-3 from 16 overs after being put into bat.

Kent, who collected their T20 South East Trophy after the game, made a good start when Alexa Stonehouse bowled Emma Jones for a duck in the first over with rain already beginning to fall.

The hosts had Essex two down in the ninth over when Grace Poole edged Ryana MacDonald-Gay’s full toss, with wicketkeeper Mia Rogers taking the catch.

Catherine Dalton brought up her 50 from 48 balls as Essex rebuilt, but there was a nice moment for 17-year-old Kent captain Grace Scrivens when she caught Erica Hobson for 4 off the bowling of Kalea Moore.

The teams tried to get more play in but once the covers went on for the second time, the match was abandoned at 8.30pm.

Scrivens enjoyed the occasion despite the early finish.

“It was brilliant,” she said. “It was such a great experience for the girls and we all really enjoyed it.

"It’s a shame it got cut short but it was a brilliant experience.”
