Canterbury Rugby Club head coach Andy Pratt wants his players to put on a show for supporters when the team take on National League 2 South leaders Henley Hawks at Merton Lane on Saturday.

Henley have a six-point lead at the top after their 48-19 victory over Old Elthamians last weekend, the Hawks’ eighth win in eight matches.

They clearly represent daunting opponents for a Canterbury side who have yet to fire this season.

But Pratt, whose side let slip a 14-point lead with eight minutes left in last Saturday’s 36-36 draw at Dings Crusaders, said: “We will have great respect for Henley but we can’t control their large squad or their links with Wasps.

“All I can do as coach is to worry about my team and make sure they are out there fighting and trying to continue the improvement in form that we’ve had over the past two or three games.

“We just want to put on a good show in front of the faithful, I suppose, because we were disappointed with our performance when we lost at home to Bishop’s Stortford earlier this month.

“We’ve got such a wonderful crowd that we’ve built up over the last few years and they know when the lads have really put it in and showed some great skills.

“That’s what they want to see and if we get that right and you add in the extra edge that a good crowd and good support can give you, then who knows what that will bring?”
