A 17-year-old has been added to Kent Spitfires’ Metro Bank One-Day Cup squad.

Left-handed all-rounder Jaydn Denly - nephew of Kent’s 50-over captain Joe Denly - will join up with the first team for their trip to The Kia Oval to play Surrey tomorrow.

Retiring Kent director of cricket Paul Downton said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Jaydn to gain first-hand experience of being in a competitive first-team cricket environment.

“He’s a talented young cricketer who will relish being part of the squad for the remainder of the group stage.”

On Instagram, Denly added: “Can’t wait to get started!”

Defending champions Spitfires have lost their last two games in the competition after a Duckworth-Lewis away win against Yorkshire last week. Their next home match is against Middlesex at Beckenham on Sunday.

Denly’s dad is Whitstable CC captain Sam Denly – also formerly a football manager with Hythe and Herne Bay - while his grandfather, Nick Denly, is Whitstable’s chairman.
