Kent will go to Lord’s on Saturday and give their all to bring home the Royal London One-Day Cup, according to head coach Matt Walker.

Spitfires face Hampshire in the hope of ending a 40 year wait for a cup final win at the Home of Cricket.

Walker said: “I want everyone to experience that feeling and everyone involved at the club. “The supporters who have been followed us for 20, 30, 40 years, the new generation of supporters, you want them all to experience that winning feeling and come away from Lord’s with a smile on their face and proud of the Kent side.

“I hope they will be proud of us regardless because we will go there and give it everything. I don’t want to focus on the winning too much because it then starts to detract from the things we have done to get to where we have got to.”

Kent beat Hampshire in sensational fashion in the group stages of the competition where they won by a single run.

Matt Henry conceded just two runs from the final over and the final will be the New Zealand overseas player’s last match before returning to his home country.

Walker said: “I don’t think they will be thinking about revenge. I think they will just be thinking about the Lord’s final like we are.

“That was an extraordinay game of cricket. The game was lost.

“It set us off on a bit of a campaign after that and it gave us a bit of belief and pushed us on.

“They will be favourites, they top of the group and have a number of international stars. The pressure is on those boys and not us.

“Matt has been incredible. You couldn’t have asked for a better overseas pro. What he’s done for us this season has been beyond the call of duty.

“He’s the one tapping Joe or Sam on the shoulder saying give me the ball I’m the man to change the game.”

There is a fresh feel and look to Kent cricket this season and that has translated to results on the pitch.

In the One-Day Cup they have won seven of their last matches and in the County Championship are challenging for promotion.

Walker said: “The results have been sensational, we are in a Lord’s final, we are second in the Championship. That to me is a massive bonus.

“This season was really important to me that we started out on a journey to create a dressing room that people wanted to play in and people started to hear about the Kent dressing room and the attitude and the fun, tightness and energy that they’ve got.”
