Goalscorer Ryan Flack knows Cray Valley have to hold their nerve if they are to reach the FA Vase final.

Flack’s 20-yard second-half goal proved the difference as Cray edged Canterbury in Sunday’s first leg.

But now he wants his team to finish off the job in Saturday’s second leg at Salters Lane.

“You can tell from the subdued celebrations afterwards that we know it’s only half-time,” said Flack.

“We’ve got to carry on and do things a bit better. We weren’t up to our high standards but maybe the conditions influenced that.

“We’ve got to keep our nerve and improve on things.

“Obviously we’ll strive to get the first goal and get control of the game, like we do in every game.

“If it doesn’t happen then we’ll go back to doing what we do best and try to wear teams down. I’m feeling confident.

“They played well and were really good in the first leg so it’s not going to be easy.

“We’re a good side, there’s a lot of players who have played at a higher level.

“As a team we try to keep the ball and get it moving but we didn’t really get going. Hopefully on Saturday we can do it.”

Flack celebrated his goal by running to his family and girlfriend Ruby in the crowd.

Recalling his 55th-minute strike, Flack said: “It just appeared that they were sending me inside so I tried my luck from the edge of the box and luckily it went in the bottom corner.

“I found my family and friends and girlfriend when I scored so it was nice to celebrate with them.

“It was good to have a big crowd here, it’s what we’re missing at our club.

“We play some good football and we need to strive towards creating their fan base.”
